About us

We are the editorial team behind Webooking, a directory focused on travel in Italy, with a separate branch for Malta. We like useful websites, human judgement and the occasional unfashionable idea.

The people behind the clicking

Webooking is an editorial project run by Supero Ltd, a web agency based in Gozo, Malta. We build websites for clients and work on SEO and digital promotion. We also run editorial projects of our own, for enjoyment, out of passion and to learn by doing. Webooking belongs to that part of our working life.

Many of our collaborators work remotely, most of them from Italy. Our physical editorial base is in Malta, where some of us live. For now, we write collectively as the Webooking editorial team. Different desks, one shared collection of links.

An unfashionable beginning

Webooking started around 2016, when many directories were closing. Naturally, we decided to open one. Going against the current has always appealed to us, especially when there is something to study along the way.

We wanted to see whether a carefully selected directory could still be useful. Our experience suggested it could. A collection organised by people gave readers another way to find resources, and gave us a practical project through which to explore how people discover information online.

The idea outlived the software

We originally chose Arfoo to run the directory. It made sense at the time, but the software was eventually abandoned, and keeping the site usable became increasingly difficult. Editorial work suffered too. Our crystal ball was evidently not included in the installation package.

We have now rebuilt Webooking on WordPress, reviewed the old collection and removed many outdated or questionable links. The directory is smaller as a result. That gives us a cleaner starting point for updating existing content and adding useful resources again.

What we want to keep

We still believe there is room for a manageable collection of useful websites, organised with care. We choose the links ourselves, and every editorial review is carried out by a human. The aim is to help readers find sensible starting points for exploring Italy.

We do not accept website submissions or promotional requests. Years of spam helped us reach that decision with unusual clarity. We would rather spend our editorial time exploring resources and improving the directory.

And why Malta?

Because it is also home. Supero is based in Gozo, our editorial base is in Malta, and some of us live here. The Malta branch reflects that connection and forms a separate collection of local resources. The general directory categories focus exclusively on Italy.
